Guts. Balls. Cheek. They are all terms used to describe someone with guts. But what is 'having guts?' How do you get it? Why do you need it? All these rhetorical questions stem from life. How you live it, how you embrace it, how you travel in it. Yes, travel, life is a mind-fuck of a journey that every one has a unique track they start on, what they do and where they end up is up to them and their mindset; you can be the cream of the crop but you can still end up in a ditch; remember that!
Having guts is a vast concept. It's the ability to do, to say, to act, to carry out that task that involves risk, that can backfire dramatically, that can hinder that track I mentioned earlier. To some having guts can be asking that special someone out, others it could be telling their boss they are a condescending prick and need to take some lessons on people skills (hope you got some savings if this is what you're about to do!). The point is that you muster the overwhelming fear and execute that plan/action; to what success is unknown until you've done it. Be ballsy, tell that girl/guy you have a crush on and what to ask them out, stand up to that bully and give em what for (if you're a bully then you are a dickhead and deserve every piece of bad karma in the world - if you're being bullied, stand up or shout up, 90% of the time they'll not know how to react as they think you're too weak; fact is you're not, you show that prick who'll look like they've just done tens rounds with Tyson!) ... but do that thing you've been hesitating to do!
You might be thinking 'it's alright for you to say that, this is your words on a screen' and yeah you're right. 100%. Not disputing that, but I live life 'on the edge' so to speak, which sounds cringe as fuck but I live by a rule; opportunity cost.
Any business nuts out there should know what I'm talking about; if not it's the concept of what do you lose out by not choosing/doing that thing.
For example, you have a crush on this cute girl you see on the train every day, and you really want to ask her out, but you're hesitating. Right, what do you lose from asking her out? You get rejected, so be it, what happens to you, you look like a bit of a tit but you can say you had the guts to do it; but importantly you've gained confidence, you may learn she kept looking at you as your hair was always a mess, or she kept looking at you as you always sat next to the sign that says the next station. But you're still alive, everything is the same or who knows she might fancy the shit out of you too! So why not? Do it! Try it! Say it!
Don't hesitate. Hesitation leads to mind contentions such as 'what if?' and regret. Never regret either, what you do, say, act all mould you to you; and more importantly form life lessons!
Be ballsy, ask that person out, ask for that discount, propose. Just do it! Don't hold back!
... take your gift of life and live it to the fullest!
