14. Books
Paper, glue and ink that's it. A book in a nutshell. But it's not though, the ink forms words, the words form sentences and the sentences form an adventure. A collection of phrases, quotes, characters, ideas, plots, all of it that formulates into a calculated sequence of events and produces a book. The thing about books is they can be about anything and everything, they have no guidelines or policies to conform to, what the author writes is what goes.
Another aspect about books is how lost you can become in them, you become a character, you become an aerial view of their lives and everything that is portrayed in it or if it's non-fiction then you are given front row seats to an educational rollercoaster depicted of facts and true information.
Ask yourself when was the last time you read a book? When you was reading it was you immersed, or thrilled, or heartbroken for them, or overwhelmed by the knowledge?
Short and sweet is that books are small keys to potential in our brains. We on average only utilise a stupidly small % of our brains... well according to some studies which I think are flawed as we can't utilise 100% of our brain at any given time so one portion that looks to not be utilised might be later in another situation... you see my point?
Anyway getting back on topic, books to me represent little keys to little lockers inside your head which the contents of the lockers depends on both the book and the person. For example, a saucy romance novel to person A might unlock a new outlook on intimacy but to person B it might unlock a deeper sense of empathism of them being immersed in the character's life. Same words. Same paper. Same book. Different outcomes.
I'll be honest books never really appealed to me but I had to travel for work and I thought sod it so I went into a WHSmith, closed my eyes and literally waved my finger about in a random pattern and picked the book I pointed at... that was four months ago and I've read three books since then and purchased another three. To me it's an eye opener as well as something to lose yourself within for a short snippet of time. I've learnt quite a few new words and look up any that I have never heard before (think this has happened around fifth teen time already). I also think my writing has improved too, that has never been a strong point and now I'm writing these blogs almost every Wednesday! This is what a book can do to you.
So, after reading this do you still think the same about a books?
Why not pick one up and see what it does for you?
